Common causes of toilet clogs
Toilet clogs most often happen because something that should not go down the toilet blocks the toilet drain. Too much toilet paper at once can block the drain, especially in a toilet that already flushes slowly. Wipes, even wipes labelled as flushable, can also block a toilet drain, because they do not break down in the same way as toilet paper. A small object that falls into the bowl, for example, a toy, a phone, or a cleaning item, can block the toilet drain as well. A toilet that keeps clogging in the same way may still have a partial blockage in the toilet drain, rather than a single object blocking it once.
